Singapore

Singapore is an island city-state located in Southeast Asia known as a global hub for healthcare, education, entertainment and finance. Often named a top international-meetings city, Singapore is constantly evolving, reinventing and reimagining itself. 

Home to over 5 million people, Singapore has four official languages, English, Malay, Mandarin Chinese and Tamil. Cultural diversity is heavily reflected in its extensive cuisine and major festivals. 

Singapore is also one of the most awarded business destinations in Asia and has been recognized across the board for its achievements and innovations across a variety of fields, including the medical field. Each year, over 200,000 foreigners seek medical care here and the Singapore medical services aim to serve at least one million foreign patients annually. 

With over 17 million tourists visiting this city-state annually, Singapore is the ideal location to host the IASLC 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer.

The IASLC 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer will be held at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Suntec Singapore is located in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District where is connected to 3 MRT lines and major highways. Established in 1995, there are more than 30,000 events held at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. It is undoubtful a world renown international venue.

Singapore has a well-developed public transportation option. There are different ticket types so that you can get to where you want to go in Singapore easily and conveniently. 

By Train (Mass Rapid Transit – MRT) 
There are 6 lines – North South Line (Red Line), East West Line (Green Line), North East Line (Purple Line), Circle Line (Orange Line), Downton Line (Blue Line) and Thomson-East Coast Line (Brown Line) for the MRT system. It runs from 5.30am to midnight every day, except services from Woodlands North to Woodlands South on the Thomson-East Coast Line which close at 9pm, and services start at 6.30am on weekends). This is the quickest, simplest and most convenient way of getting around Singapore. You can choose from the different ticket types or tourist travel pass. 

By Bus 
Bus system will provide you an extensive network to the whole city in Singapore. There are various types of ticket or pass you can choose. 

By Taxi 
Getting a taxi in Singapore is easy. You can hail a taxi at most places, or you can find them queuing at most hotels, shopping malls and attractions. 

Singapore has a tropical weather, so it is hot and humid all year round. The average temperatures in September: Maximum: 31ºC / 88ºF Minimum: 24ºC / 75ºF 

The currency used in Singapore is Singapore Dollar ($). Notes come in $2, $5, $10, $50, $100, $1,000 and $10,000. Coins come in 5, 10, 20, and 50 cents and $1. 

Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm. To exchange money, it is better to do it at a designated money exchanger as banks sometimes charge high fees.  

Tipping is encouraged at hotels, restaurants and taxis. However, some restaurants often include 10% service charge in the bill already. If this is the case, there is no need to add the extra.  Also no tip is needed for food stalls, cafes or bars.  

There are 4 official language – English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Among these, English is the main language used for all the regions in Singapore. 

The Republic of Singapore welcomes visitors with relatively relaxed visa procedures. Citizens of many nations such as European Union, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, South Kore, Switzerland, and United States are eligible for a 30-day social visit pass on arrival in Singapore. However, citizens of certain countries do require tourist visas and anyone planning to work in Singapore must apply for the appropriate permits.  

Foreign Nationals 
Citizens of certain countries require a visa for any visit to Singapore. Nationalities that require a visa include, but at not limited to, many Middle Eastern countries and many nations of the former Soviet Union. The list is further divided into Assessment Level I and Assessment Level II. The requirements are similar for both lists.

All visitors to Singapore must meet the following entry requirements: 

  • Valid travel document (minimum validity 6 months at the time of departure) 
  • A submitted SG Arrival Card  
  • Confirmed onward or return tickets  
  • Entry facilities, including visas, to the next destination 
  • Sufficient funds to maintain themselves during their stay in Singapore 
  • Visa entry into Singapore (if applicable)

An official Letter of Invitation to obtain a Visa and authorization to attend the IASLC 2023 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC 2023) will be issued ONLY after registration has been completed and full payment received by the Conference Secretariat. 

Processing times for visa applications vary depending on the visa office and the time of the year. Participants are encouraged to apply approximately 12 weeks in advance of their departure date to ensure they receive the visa in time.
